Volunteers from St Paul’s Boundary Road and the local community got their hands dirty and their boots muddy when they knuckled down to create the No Boundaries Community Garden at the corner of Loughborough Road and Boundary Road, West Bridgford.
A set of four large planters, surrounded by a low fence, are now ready for planting with flowers, fruit and vegetables – some of which may end up on your plate if you are eating in The Café on the Corner based at St Paul’s.
The idea was seeded about 18 months ago at St Paul’s and blossomed thanks to a lot of support from the Community. “It happened really organically,” said Revd. Tim Fox, vicar of St. Paul’s Boundary Road – no pun intended!
“We are an Eco Church so this is one of the ways we can care for creation. We will have a journey of produce across our garden, our social eating project, and our Café. We have come up with a well-being project that only the church can offer because it is about body, mind and spirit. We are inviting people to be part of our Community through our Café and social eating projects, but we can offer something spiritual as well. We are Your Church in the Community” Tim said.
“We have had amazing support – particularly from Councillor Gordon Wheeler. Without his help this wouldn’t have happened,” he added. This ground-breaking project was spearheaded by church member Mark Britton. It has also had tremendous support from Penney Poyzer of Nottingham Good Food Partnership, Frank Key Tool Hire who provided a digger and compaction plate and A W Lymn’s centenary fund. Raised beds and matting worth £2,000 were donated by British Recycled Plastic, organized by Penney Poyzer, and Rushcliffe Borough Council gave permission to use the unadopted land. Another £2,000 has been allocated from a St Paul’s legacy fund and more grants and funding have been applied for.
“We are really grateful for all the help and donations we have received,” Tim said. All donations and volunteers welcome!
