Volunteering at Radcliffe Manor House

24/07/2025 by Digital Media

The National Volunteers Week which ran this year from 2nd to 8th June provides a platform for organisations and communities to thank current and past volunteers for their efforts.

Radcliffe Manor House, a not-for-profit residential care home in the centre of the village, continues to benefit greatly from volunteer input both from our dedicated management committee and members of the local community who give their time to enhance the lives of our residents.

One of our volunteers is Sophie Golds [pictured] a Rushcliffe resident who spends every Friday at the Home helping at lunchtime and chatting and playing dominoes with residents which she enjoys because, as she says, they have lived such long and varied lives. When the weather allows, Sophie walks around the extensive gardens with the more able residents and often accompanies staff in taking residents who need wheelchair assistance on trips to the village. We think it’s wonderful to have Sophie with us as she makes a great contribution to the daily life of the Home. On other days, Sophie volunteers at Mencap and keeps herself fit by swimming and exercising in the gym.

Having younger people involved in the Home’s activities is something we strongly encourage.  We regularly get help from college students who are studying for NVQ qualifications prior to working in the care sector. Recently we have provided work experience to a pharmacy student from the University of Nottingham. Students from South Nottinghamshire Academy have also helped out on various tasks as part of their qualifications for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

If you feel that you could contribute to Radcliffe Manor House either as a member of the management committee, or in any other way, please contact us on 0115 9110138 or email [email protected].
