If you’ve been in the city centre recently, you may well have noticed the many international languages being spoken. That’s because for the first time since the covid pandemic, overseas students are returning to Nottingham to attend International summer schools.
France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Oman are to name a few countries who send students to the UK between June & September.
Summer schools offer overseas students the opportunity to come to Nottingham for between 2 and 8 weeks where they combine morning English language classes and afternoon leisure or sporting activities.
The students stay with local host families where they can practice their English language in conversations with the family and get to experience our culture and customs.
Nottingham Host Families and Language Tuition Nottingham are two local organisations that help make summer schools possible, providing the family accommodation and English language classes.
Host families are remunerated for hosting the students and say that it is an enjoyable and rewarding experience as well as an additional source of income, particularly welcome in the current economic environment.
Hosting overseas students is not just limited to summer schools between June and September, families host students all year round for visiting school groups on 3-4 night trips and also mature independent students furthering their English language skills.
Students, teachers and group leaders say – Viva Nottingham!
