Future generations of Nottingham children will soon benefit from the newly-designed paddling pool scheme that will be a modern interpretation of the traditional water play previously enjoyed by many.
The restoration of the Victoria Embankment Paddling Pool has been made possible thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF), Section 106 and Government Levelling Up contributions.
Built in 1928, the pool fell into disrepair and has not been in use since before the pandemic. It is an important part of Nottingham’s cultural heritage with nearly 100 years of cherished memories of happy days spent playing in the water overlooking the River Trent.
Nottingham City Council conducted extensive community engagement to understand the importance of the facility and, despite many challenges, has worked hard to come up with a sustainable, creative and affordable design that will be enjoyed by many for years to come.
The new Paddling Pool will open in Spring 2025.
Councillor Sam Lux, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Carbon Reduction at Nottingham City Council, said: “Following the successful use of Lottery funding to restore the Victoria Embankment Memorial Gardens, I am delighted to see further investment into the area with the restoration of the paddling pool.
“Victoria Embankment has been an asset to Nottingham for nearly 100 years so this is great news for local residents and the city in general.”
