Currently leading the Nottinghamshire Senior League, Bingham Town could sense a cup upset.
Dubbed as one of the biggest games in the clubs history, they travelled to Carlton Town in the Fourth round of the Notts Senior Cup.
After fantastic wins against higher opposition in Retford and Clipstone during rounds 1 and 2, Bingham welcomed Ashland Rovers in round 3, where they comfortably beat their opposition 4-1 at Butt Field.
Some would say the return of Chris North as Manager has been a turning point for the side, however speaking with locals has only added fuel to Bingham’s fire after a fine second place finish in the Nottinghamshire Senior League (NSL) last season.
Bingham lined up on a boggy Stoke Lane surface with veteran Andy Nicholson captaining the side. Leading the line from Bingham were NSL top scorers Hardy & Sweeting, and Carlton certainly weren’t taking the away side for granted by playing a number of their first team regulars.
A gritty first half display from Bingham saw the sides go in at half time 0-0 and many would argue that the away side deserved to be leading. After half time Bingham continued to impress and after hitting the bar through Jake Hardy, finally took the lead when Ed Hogdson rifled in from the edge of the area.

Carlton levelled the game at around 70 mins through substitute Tyler Blake and in the final moments of normal time, both sides had chances to win the tie.
Unfortunately, Bingham’s cup dream ended in extra time when they conceded on 97 mins when another of the Millers subs Mamoke Akaunu scored to make 2-1. It was a fantastic performance from Bingham, who dominated the game for large periods and will undoubtedly feel disappointed not to progress to the Quarter Finals.

Nevertheless, it was a fantastic showing from Bingham Town who have done everyone, from their manager to the amazing travelling fans, proud.

They will take huge confidence going back to their league campaign where they have 16 games remaining. Their next fixture is at Butt Field on Saturday 1st February against Sandiacre Town, kick off is at 2pm.
