After the success of its first two concerts, Trent Chamber Orchestra continues its season at the Rushcliffe Arena on Sunday afternoon April 23rd at 3.00pm.
They continue their policy of inviting young soloists at the start of their careers. This time to play the virtuosic last movement of the Hummel Trumpet Concerto, is Josie Sleigh from West Bridgford.
Her trumpet lessons began 10 years ago at the Becket School and she has spent the last two years working with Gerald Douglas whilst completing her A levels at Nottingham High School.
Josie has been awarded a scholarship to continue her studies at the Royal College of Music and will be starting her BMus degree in September 2023.
She enjoys playing a varied repertoire mixing contemporary pieces for the trumpet with the established Classical trumpet concertos. This allows her to explore different styles of musical storytelling.
Josie has played with the English Schools Orchestra and performed the Neruda trumpet concerto at the European Youth Summer Music school. She is the Principal trumpet of the Nottingham Youth Orchestra and has been a memberof the Nottingham Youth Jazz Orchestra for 8 years.
As part of the Tony Farrell Big Band since 2019, Josie regularly performs the Big Band classics across the East Midlands.
In 2022, Josie also competed in the national finals of Pro Corda Chamber music competition in Somerset with Nottingham High School brass quartet.
Future concerts include an invite to play the Hummel Trumpet Concerto with Trent Chamber Orchestra. Josie will also appear as the guest soloist at Sinfonia Chorale’s concert in the Summer.
Delius’s much loved Tone Poem ‘On Hearing the First Cuckoo of Spring’ is sandwiched by popular overtures heard regularly on Classic FM, Fingal’s Cave and Don Giovanni. After the interval is another Classic FM favourite, Beethoven’s joyful 7th Symphony.
