Tram network to fall silent for act of remembrance

08/11/2019 by Digital Media

Nottingham’s tram network will fall silent on Monday as the city remembers the sacrifices made by the nation’s service men and women.

Former members of the armed services who now work on the tramway will be joining colleagues and customers in observing a two minutes silence while NET is offering free travel to veterans and serving military personnel.

Mike Mabey, NET’s Head of Operations, commented: “With so many members of the NET team having served in the army, navy or air force, we are proud to show our support for this national act of remembrance and also The Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal.

“As 11am approaches on the 11th day of the 11th month, all trams will come to a safe stop to allow everyone the chance to honour those who sacrificed so much in the Great War and more recent conflicts.”

The offer of free travel for former and serving members of the armed services travelling to remembrance events will also cover this Sunday (November 10) – when remembrance services traditionally take place – as well as Monday, November 11.

Rebekah Smith, NET Marketing Manager added: “It’s very important to us to show appreciation of the dedication and heroism shown by members of the armed services, past and present, so offering free travel for them to get to remembrance events is the least we can do.”

“All they have to do to take advantage of the offer is to show services ID.”
