At the half way stage of the season in the Nottinghamshire Premier Cricket League, Radcliffe on Trent Cricket Club are sitting in third position after a fine 5-wicket home win against champions Kimberley Institute CC.
After winning the toss, the away side elected to bat first and posted a formidable 284-8 from their 50 overs. The wickets were shared around the bowlers, with the pick of the figures 2-56 from 10 overs from Jacob Deavin-Baker.
On an excellent batting wicket, Radcliffe set about reaching the total but lost overseas professional Wiz Masojada with only 3 runs on the scoreboard. However, a brilliant second wicket partnership of 149 from in-form pair Rob Sutton (78 from 111 balls) and Jack Towers (91 from 72 balls) gave them a superb foundation. Two quick wickets left the team needing 85 runs in the final 12 overs and with 2 new batsmen at the crease, many wondered if they’d left themselves too much to do.
Fortunately, this was not the case as hard hitting Caleb Mierkalns (34* from 25 balls) and Jacob Deavin-Baker (49* from 38 balls) helped the side fly past the total with 11 balls to spare.
The win will give Radcliffe a huge confidence boost going into the second half of the season with a chance of their highest placed finish since their return to the Nottinghamshire Premier Cricket League in 2014.
