Recently Friends of Beeston Station (FOBS) took time out to enjoy a special complimentary Afternoon Tea from The Victoria Hotel in Beeston.
The Vic had put on the Tea to thank FOBS for its work in keeping the Station platforms, the Tin Bridge and the area outside the Hotel clean and tidy.
The landlady of The Vic, Hannah Butler, said that ‘It’s wonderful what FOBS does. It makes such
a difference to be in an area
which is looked after, and I just wanted to show my appreciation to them.’
‘As well, their planters on the Station platform are magnificent this year. They have been commented upon by many of our customers’ Hannah said.
Trish Roberts-Thomson, the Chair of FOBS, said FOBS was surprised and touched by being thanked by The Vic. ‘It does make a difference when people appreciate us’ she said.
Trish went on ‘the planters on Platform 1 are a credit to all the hard work and gardening skills of our members. They have continued to water and dead head the flowers throughout the summer and, given the heat, at times this was a daily task!’
‘The attention and dedication however has paid off and they are now a credit to us all. Even some notable visitors have commented and we do hope that passengers appreciate them.’
Trish said, ‘Sadly, the planters were planted to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee but, for the next few weeks until winter comes, they will remain as a point of reflection on her passing.’
