This Year at Cotgrave Country Park

05/10/2022 by Digital Media

There has been a lot of activity on the Country Park this year! The Friends group has worked hard to develop and maintain the park, and to organise full programmes of activities.

Fancy learning about nature?  Below are this year’s walks and activities. We are hoping to put all these activities on next year, and to extend our list. Below is a list of

  • Bat walks
    • Wildflower walks
    • Butterfly and moth walks
    • A (very early morning!) birdsong walk
    • A children’s mini beast hunt
    • Still to come Autumn fungi walk and Winter tree identification walk

Our task days, in conjunction with Nottinghamshire County Council, have been able to fully resume, following so many restrictions.  The work parties have been involved in tidying, cutting back and, opening ditches to name but a few. Please do join us and try these out. Go to the website for more information.

Apart from this a lot of work has gone on ‘behind the scenes’ for instance we are near to our new website being completed, which will be easier to navigate and updated regularly. Thanks to all who work so hard for this wonderful local resource and our community.

  • Our Big Day was our Park Fun Day

A total of 327 folks passed by the start of the stalls. Children’s activities involved lots of enjoyable messy activities, including wildflower ‘bombs’ (the messiest) sand mazes, face painting, giant jigsaws, treasure hunts, and two bug hunts- enjoyed by grown-ups too!

All the stalls were enthusiastically manned and gave a variety of information on nature related themes, including Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, hedgehogs, bees, to name but a few of the contributors. All this plus our Friends displays and activities. The weather was exceptionally kind and backed up by Ice Cream and proper coffee, all had a lovely time.

We were able to provide this event free of charge (except for a small charge for face painting and treasure hunt), helped by funding from the Co-op Community Fund and donations from others
including two of our local councillors.

Photographs were taken by our 2021 competition winner. Thank you!

Still to come this year is the Autumn Fungi Walk on the 23rd October.

Details of this are on our website or book at: www.ticketsource.co.uk/the-friends-of-cotgrave-country-park

We also hope to have a Winter tree identification walk- keep an eye on the website, Facebook or our park information boards.
