Has anyone ever read ‘The Power Of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle? It’s a wonderful book and one that could be really helpful in bringing about the change we so desperately need.
Eckhart talks about how we as humans have done some pretty “insane” things throughout history (think world wars, bulldozing through forests that provide us with oxygen, filling the oceans with plastic in the name of growing the economy…)
His solution is actually quite simple and one that may surprise you – he offers the foundational bedrock for change – detaching ourself from our endless thoughts & worries and becoming totally present to the ‘now’.
But how does this help climate change? Does it cut our fossil fuel usage? Does it change the economy? Well, not directly but what it does do is lead us into a much more peaceful state of being (a state of being truly conscious) which in turn leads us to notice all of the awe and wonder around us and understand how abundant we truly are and how everything is interconnected.
This in turn leads us to see that the scarcity mindset is false and that everything we truly need is right here – we just need to focus on the real stuff – love, community, health, nature… and create the type of world where everyone and everything can truly thrive.
Eckhart believes that we have to evolve if we want to survive as a species; he knows that the more people who manage this, the more infectious this way of being becomes.
