The hard work continues at Beeston Station

22/01/2026 by Digital Media

It’s been a busy year for the Friends of Beeston Station (FOBS). Trish Roberts-Thomson left the group in November after 8 years as chair.  She contributed a lot over that time and we wish her well.

The year started with the opening of the lifts and is ending with the start of work to refurbish the canopies and shelters on both platforms.  The station forecourt outside the ticket office has been remodelled by East Midlands Railway, with additional seating, a large cycle hub and a station garden.  We have just planted the garden, with the help of EMR staff, with a variety of grasses, drought resistant plants and spring bulbs. The planting scheme was designed by Chryse Tinsley, one of our members.    We look forward to the spring when the plants are established and bring some colour to the station.

Our Remembrance Day display was put up again in November, along with red, purple and white poppies. We are always interested in stories of the people who worked at the station in the past.  Please contact us at [email protected] if you have a family story to share.

Our small group of litter pickers can usually be seen around the station in all weathers on Sunday mornings. We also sweep up a lot of leaves at this time of the year and one of our plans for 2026 is to improve our system for turning the leaves into compost.

You can always find out what we are doing on our Facebook page: Friends of Beeston Station.
