It means the school – which is part of the Nova Education Trust – is recognised as having a truly outstanding character provision.
The Quality Marks provide recognition for transformative character education delivered by schools, colleges and organisations.
The assessors from the Association for Character Education recognised the incredible work at the school and the progress that has been made in the past year.
It often takes schools many years to reach the stage The Garibaldi School are at now and the assessors said they were more in line with a school on its fourth or fifth year Character journey, not a school embarking on its second.
James Aldred, Head Teacher, at The Garibaldi School, said: “Character development is heart and centre of what we do.
“Academic qualifications are really important but so are the skills and characteristics needed to be successful in life.
“I am so pleased of what we have achieved in just one year and how well staff, students and parents have worked together to achieve this recognition and accreditation.”
Such is the school’s rapid progress, they have been asked to support the Character agenda by working with other schools on their journey and attend national conferences.
Rebecca Moors, Deputy Head Teacher, added: “The Garibaldi School Character education journey is pivotal to the care compassion and support that our students receive.
“The explicit work we do with our students teaches them about virtues. The enrichment opportunities in school are specifically designed for our students to actively practice these virtues.
“The success of achieving the School of Character kitemark after just a year of embarking on this journey is a testament to the outstanding character education provision afforded to our students.
“The assessors have commented how every decision made around this agenda is purposeful and coordinated. The approach is collaborative and our staff are truly practitioners of character.
“It is a result of our wonderful students and their eagerness to always be the best they can be that enables these agendas to really flourish. We are extremely excited to see what next year will bring as this develops even further.”
