The WI is over one hundred years old this year, and from its early beginnings campaigned on important issues for women.
The Oxus has always been on education, friendship and changing womens lives for the better.
Clifton Doves Nottingham picked up the baton in the shape of – scarecrows! And what fun we had!
Committee members set to and using their school days papier-mâché skills made nine heads. They collected clothes and accessories. Monday the 12th September, the monthly meeting was Scarecrow Night! Ladies dressed and stuffed them to the hilt. At the end of a hilarious evening we had:
Sally Suffragette
Lucy Land girl
Mabel Midwife and Baby Molly
Fair trade Faith
Jury Service Judy
Sam LGBQT
Lottie Litter Picker
Polly Plastic Pollution
Connie Cancer awareness ( with crocheted’ladies bits)
Each one represented action supported by WI over the years. The scarecrows were placed around the Village each with information about the WI and what the scarecrow was representing.
The Scarecrow Trail was received well by the public and a great deal of interest was shown.
