The Nottingham Indian Tamil Community came together on Saturday 12th March at Portland Leisure Centre to conduct a fun filled Badminton tournament for the first time.
The main motto of the tournament was to bring the community members under one roof to have a fun filled day. The three categories we had were Men’s doubles, Women’s doubles and Mixed doubles matches. We had players, referees, and volunteers from all parts of Nottingham such as Beeston, Bulwell, Meadows, Clifton, West Bridgford and Sherwood come together.
The event started with a short speech followed by some fast and pacy badminton games. All the players were rewarded with a participation medal where the winners and the runners from all 3 categories were awarded with their respective trophies. The children also had a go at badminton games between matches which in turn has encouraged some of the children to play badminton regularly which was one of the motives of the tournament organisers.
We started this badminton tournament as a mere sports event which then ended up as a beautiful family event leaving everyone with a greatly cherished memory in their hearts. We thank everyone who was part of this badminton tournament for making this a great success for the Indian Tamil community in Nottingham.
