Spotlight on Good Companions for some upcoming events

28/10/2025 by Digital Media

Good Companions is a local charity which aims to support people from the Clifton, Wilford and Silverdale areas who are experiencing loneliness and social isolation.  We run friendship groups each week around the Clifton area which offer refreshments and a chat, quizzes, a raffle, bingo and a range of other activities such as craft, hoya and pamper sessions.

This article highlights our friendship group held at Clifton Community Centre (aka ‘The Shed’), this is on Southchurch Drive, next to the Hope Centre and the Clifton high rise flats.  The group meets each Monday, 11am to 1pm.

Our Clifton Community Centre friendship group is led by Co-ordinator Wendy Finnerty.  Wendy tells us: “This friendship group has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a regular team of volunteers. Over the autumn period we have some great activities planned including autumn crafts (Monday 22nd September), therapy animals (Monday 29th September), seated tai chi (Monday 6th October), The Ukulele Band (Monday 20th October), and Halloween crafts (Monday 27th October). We would love for you to come and join us.”  Wendy can be contacted on: 07743 564716.

Autumn Fayre: Saturday 8th November2025. 10.00pm – 2.00pm at Clifton Community Centre (The Shed)

In preparation for Christmas we will be holding an Autumn Fayre. Entry is just £1 (under 16s have free entry when accompanied by an adult). All proceeds will go to ensuring the continuation of Good Companions’ services.

There will be stalls selling all manner of things ranging from toys and gifts for children to individual and unique items suitable for adults and the home.  Gift ideas include cards, bags, Christmas wreaths, decorations, slippers and nightwear, jewellery and quality pre-loved clothes and accessories.

There will also be a face painting stand for children (and adults if you fancy it) and a tombola, plus tickets will be on sale for our annual Christmas raffle with some fantastic prizes.  There will also be refreshments and cakes on sale, and the bar will be open from noon if you fancy a midday tipple.

If you would like more information, or wish to have a stall at this event, please could email Dee Stirland at [email protected].

If you are thinking of volunteering for Good Companions, please contact us.  Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience. By helping to combat loneliness in our community you really can bring joy to someone’s day. We offer support, training and social events for our volunteers.

To find out more call me on 07743 561 092 or email [email protected].
