Six neighbours in Clifton are celebrating after scooping an equal share of £180,000 within the first week of the year.
As part of the People’s Postcode Lottery ’30k a Day’ daily street prize, residents of Waterdown Road were announced as the lucky winners last month on Tuesday, January 7th.
A huge £30,000 was given out to each of the six neighbours who share the postcode NG11 9LB. Residents spoke of their surprise and how they planned to share their winnings with loved ones.
Grandmother-of-two, Marilyn said: “My knees were shaking when I saw how much money I’d won – and they’re still shaking! I’ve won smaller cash prizes from People’s Postcode Lottery over the past couple of years, £10 here and there, but this is the biggest amount I have ever won.
“I have one daughter and two grandchildren so I’m definitely going to treat them all, and I’d also love a holiday at some point. But what I really want to treat myself to, is a DNA test. I was adopted as a baby and I’ve managed to trace my family history back to the 1600s, but I’d really like to find out what makes me, me and find that final piece of the puzzle.
“I’m just thrilled that I’ve won as I’ve never been very lucky at winning in the past. It’s great to know the money goes towards good causes but winning myself is definitely a bonus!”
Marilyn’s neighbour Robert also reacted to his £30,000 cheque describing the win as “life-changing”.
The grandad-of-two said: “I only started playing in August. I’m speechless really, things like this never happen on this road but it’s a fantastic surprise. I have two grandchildren and two daughters that I’ll be treating. My grandson has also asked to go to Legoland, so that’s on the list.
“Winning this amount of money is life-changing for our family. It makes a big difference and takes the sting out of knowing I won’t have to work much longer. I will continue to play as it’s great knowing we’re helping local causes.”
Another lucky winner was Timothy, who said: “Being part of this win is just fantastic. I’ll leave the spending to my wife, but we have a son and daughter who we’ll treat.
“Winning with your neighbours makes this extra special so we will be celebrating with a drink tonight for sure. It’s a good feeling to help charities but also to win yourself.”
Street Prize presenter Judie McCourt was in Waterdown Road to hand out the winning cheques, she said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure meeting our winners in Clifton.
