On Friday 9th February, the last day of the half term, many schools were winding down ready for the holiday; however, this was not the case at Pierrepont Gamston Primary School.
Assistant Head and year 5 teacher Mr Howes organised a careers fair for all the pupils in year 5 and 6 to attend.
With over 35 different professionals – either presenting in person or virtually – the children had an incredible line up to choose from. From fire fighters, police officers, solicitors, the CEO for Marie Curie and our local MP Ruth Edwards, to counsellors, TV and radio presenters, journalists and computer animators.
It was an afternoon that opened the eyes of so many children and brought their PSHE toes to do more and more of across all areas of the curriculum.
Some of the comments from children and parents made all the hard work organising the event worthwhile. “My child found the police officer and the journalist/content creator particularly interesting and now really wants to work for the police when she’s older. Thanks for organising.” – “Absolutely amazing,” said another parent- “She has come home buzzing and full ideas and inspiration! Her favourite was the doctor because she found it so interesting!” “It’s been his best day at school ever! Lots of interesting jobs and things to learn,” said another.
All those involved were parents or known to members of the school community – it was wonderful to have a very diverse range of jobs and individuals to challenge children’s perception of what is possible. Our thanks go to all those who took part and made it an afternoon never to be forgotten.
