Rushcliffe communities advised to prepare for potential localised flooding this week

18/01/2021 by Digital Media

Rushcliffe Borough Council is advising its communities to prepare for potential localised flooding as heavy rain is expected across the region from Tuesday (January 19) to Thursday this week.

The Borough could receive the most significant rainfall on Wednesday with an amber warning for rain for all three days, building on the higher volumes that have fallen in the last 10 days

The Environment Agency will be closely monitoring the levels of larger rivers however a greater risk can come from smaller watercourses and very localised surface water flooding.

In conjunction with the Local Resilience Forum and Nottinghamshire County Council, the authority is encouraging residents most at risk of flooding to be prepared and deploy any local property resilience measures they may have.

These include ensuring barriers, flood gates or air brick covers are closed in advance to help reduce the possible impact.

The Council is also asking parishes and other landowners to check over any local water course infrastructure they may have responsibility for, to ensure it is free flowing.

It is ready to respond with support and can be contacted on 0115 981 9911 or out of hours on 0115 981 1143 and its partners Streetwise will also have teams on standby to assist communities.
