Summer events scheduled by Rushcliffe Borough Council until July have been cancelled in light of COVID-19, affecting VE day celebrations, Proms in the Park, the Taste of Rushcliffe Food and Drink Festival and the YouNG Market.
The events, which had previously been scheduled for May 8, June 27 and July 4 respectively, will now no longer take place to help reduce the further spread of Coronavirus and observe current government guidelines on social distancing.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Debbie Mason said: “We have made the difficult decision to cancel our summer programme of events until at least July to help ensure residents, businesses and communities remain safe and can observe essential advice from central government on social distancing.
We know that many look forward to our popular annual events, but unfortunately the emerging COVID-19 situation means that we cannot continue to plan and host such celebrations at the current time.
“As we all continue to work together in these unprecedented times, our teams will review events scheduled for later this year and continue to support all those impacted wherever possible.”
Decisions on the Council’s remaining events programme will be made in line with government advice, with the authority working closely with partners, businesses and community groups to keep all relevant parties informed.
