Rushcliffe Borough Council employees help resident celebrate 108th birthday

01/03/2021 by Digital Media

Employees from Rushcliffe Borough Council have banded together to help a resident from West Bridgford celebrate her incredible 108th birthday during COVID-19.

The members of the staff singing group at the authority first met Jeanie Richardson when they visited Leawood Manor Care Home to perform carols for residents in 2018.

Jeanie was such a lively character, she was even spotted dancing away to some Christmas classics during the group’s visit.

When they heard the care home appealing for people to get in touch to celebrate her big day, they quickly regrouped to safely send her a rousing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ via YouTube which staff at the care home will play for Jeanie later today.

This was accompanied by Chief Executive Kath Marriott safely dropping flowers and a huge birthday card on behalf of staff at the Council to the care home earlier this week.

She said: “I’m delighted that our teams have been able to help celebrate such an incredible milestone for Jeanie as she reaches her 108th birthday.

“The team have fond memories of Jeanie dancing at our Christmas performance a few years ago and I’m so pleased that we’re able to be a part of her special day.

“I hope she has a wonderful birthday worthy of such an inspirational figure in our local community.”

The care home had appealed through the local press to send Jeanie as many birthday cards and good wishes as possible on the big day.

Mrs Richardson was delighted with the response and thanked the Council.
