Rugby Club plans for The Dan Sutton Memorial Terrace

06/02/2021 by Digital Media

In memory of Dan Sutton, the West Bridgford RFC would like to create a sheltered area with seating for members of the club and the other community organisations such as West Bridgfordians Cricket Club, exercise classes and other community groups who use the facility.

Dan spent much of his time watching his beloved rugby from the front of the clubhouse and always mentioned that the current area needed upgrading to complement the new clubhouse.

Dan was a man who dedicated his life to teaching and sport. He played a key role in the development of rugby at West Bridgford Rugby Club and within Notts, Lincs & Derbys RU; especially the implementation of junior rugby, alongside many other voluntary roles in both cricket and rugby.

He has left a lasting impression on so many lives and will be sorely missed by all, therefore this new project will be a fitting tribute in memory of Dan Sutton for many years to come.

We do not currently have enough usable space in the clubhouse due to the Covid 19 restrictions which will be around for the foreseeable future. These new plans will enable us to offer external viewing and catering facilities.

The estimated project cost is £20,000. We are asking our community to come together to raise £10,000 and this we plan to match with Sport England. The Covid-19 pandemic could affect millions of people in the next few months, so having this external area will allow us to open the club to the wider community sooner. This allows the club to return to a more normal operating model and generate the income needed to sustain the club into the future.

If you would like to donate to this fantastic project to show your support and create a lasting memory of Dan, then please follow the link to the crowdfunder page on the West Bridgford RFC website here: westbridgfordrfc.rfu.club

In addition to this, 40+ WBRFC players are looking to raise a further £5,000 by running a total distance of 1952 kilometres within 28 days of February (Dan was born in 1952). To donate to this cause, please visit westbridgfordrfc.rfu.club and visit the ‘News’ tab to find
the link.
