Pupils at Robert Miles Infant School in Bingham have been making an impact on their local community following an assembly about becoming litter heroes rather than litter bugs.
Members of the Streetwise team at Rushcliffe Borough Council came to speak with the youngsters at the school, which is part of the Nova Education Trust.
They also spoke about the different items that can be recycled and why this is important for the environment.
Many children and their families joined together for a successful litter picking session around Bingham.
Joey said: “I liked getting the rubbish with the litter pickers. We found a broken football in the bush and we worked as a team to get it out.”
Skyla: “I liked walking around the park and helping Bingham and the animals so they survive.”
Such was the success, another event is planned for the very near future and the assembly has inspired children and staff to go above and beyond to help their local community.
Reception pupil Max, Year 1 student Alice and Aimee in Year 2 are now all going on regular litter picks with their families around the local area, helping to keep the streets clean and litter-free.
In addition, Aimee Attwood, the school’s Personal Development Lead, organised a recycling competition.
Children used their creativity to design and make models from recycled materials.
Kelly Ryan, Head Teacher at Robert Miles, said: “It was fantastic to see how many children and their families turned out to support the school on the litter pick.
“Caring for the environment is a really important part of our curriculum at Robert Miles Infants and so the children are all very much on-board with helping in any way they can.”
