Editor of the Local News, Dani was invited to a special outdoor cinema viewing at Notts Maze in Arnold. Here’s what she said about the experience:
As a massive movie fan, I was delighted to be invited to watch The Greatest Showman at the Notts Maze outdoor cinema on Friday 28th May. I wasn’t sure what to expect as The Notts Maze is (quite obviously) famous for their yearly Maize Maze rather than cinematic experiences, but they did not disappoint.
Clearly signposted, we found the entrance to the Maze grounds. As we pulled up, there was plenty of parking and when we got out of the car, we discovered we were right next to a little bar that sold both soft drinks and alcohol, alongside a wood-fired pizza trailer plus there were toilets nearby. The staff were super friendly and directed us round to the cinema area which was at the end of a short path through the woods, beautifully lit by fairy lights. The screen was definitely large enough for the number of viewers and we sat amongst the trees where certain areas had canopies draping across in case of rainfall.
Prior to our visit, I was advised to bring camping chairs and/or blankets. Being me, I thought we would be fine just sitting on the floor on blankets, but as everyone else smartly brought camping chairs, we found ourselves struggling to see over everyone. Luckily a staff member directed us to an area where we could rent camp chairs for free, thank heavens!
After getting comfy with our blankets and our borrowed chairs, we ordered a wood-fired pizza which came just after the movie started, it tasted great and was reasonably priced at just £7.50.
As the sun was shining, the screen was a little pale as it tried to compete with the bright sky, but as the sun went down, the screen could be seen brighter and brighter. The sound was fantastic and it was a lovely experience. It was even a joy to see some children dancing to the music of The Greatest Showman (who could blame them).
A huge shout out to the staff, each and every staff member we spoke to, were being incredibly helpful, polite and considerate to us and other visitors. I felt safe, cared for and completely at ease due to how well organised it was.
Overall, I can only describe this as a magical experience, there’s something so lovely about sitting amongst the trees during sunset, snuggled up in blankets and watching a fantastic movie. Especially after such a turbulent year mostly spent indoors, I think that a trip to the Maize Maze outdoor cinema really is a special treat for friends, couples or for all the family.
