Residents and non-residents attended the event with 100 joining the street party and 40 more attendees joining outside. The event highlight was performer Mandy Reilly who sang traditional 40s and 50s tunes and topped the performance off with songs by wartime legend Vera Lynn.
Guests were treated to afternoon tea with the food served in ration boxes just as it was back in 1945 with jam and spam sandwiches. The boxes were created by the village’s own Activities Coordinator Vicky Merryweather as an added touch. Staff members also committed to the event and wore Land Army uniforms at the celebrations and bunting adorned the halls.
