Sunday Markets are now running every weekend at the former Barton bus garage in Chilwell.
The markets run between 10am and 2pm and feature local, independent artisan traders. There are two different events, The Sunday Fine Food & Craft Market which takes place on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month and the Farmers’ Market which is on the 2nd and 4th Sunday. But, essentially both markets celebrate the very best in food, drink, floristry, houseplants and pet treats.
The line-up of traders alters slightly from week to week, so over the space of a month The Garage will host around 100 different local and independent businesses.
Prize winning artisan foods on offer include patisserie, sweet and savoury pies, fish, spices, cheeses, chocolate, preserve and pickles, steamed puddings, cookies and brownies and old fashioned sweets.
Many traders cater for vegetarian and vegan shoppers.
The Garage Bar has a great selection of locally brewed real ale and craft beer. Currently, for take-out only, but when restrictions allow it’s hoped you’ll be able to enjoy a pint whilst visiting. Other drinks traders include an Italian wine merchant, locally produced gin, rum, mead and bottles of pre-mixed cocktails.
Two barista coffee traders are on site for you to grab an espresso, cappuccino or cup of tea as well as hot take out street food traders who cook to order. Over the last year they’ve rustled up dishes such as BBQ burgers and fish, stone cooked pizza, Dutch poffertjes and homecooked lasagne.
The slightly larger Fine Food & Craft Market has an additional extensive craft section showcases a range of talented artists and creatives. Many take commissions and produce bespoke items such as clothing, woodturning, art, home decor and pet accessories. There’s a jewellery repair service, a pop-up houseplant shop, a florist and a second hand book store.
The market is free to enter and dog and child friendly. There are nearby public car parks in the area and bus and tram stops straight outside. Most of the traders now take contactless payments.
