Popular Sunday Market at events venue The Garage Chilwell back for 2021

04/03/2021 by Digital Media

The Sunday Fine Food & Craft Market held in the former Barton bus garage in Chilwell, is due to re-open once again in March.

The popular market will be up and running twice a month on the first and third Sunday of each month between 10am and 2pm. (Subject to Government guidelines relaxing to allow non essential retail).

Each market hosts over 30 traders, who are local, independent businesses producing high quality products.  Prize winning artisan foods on offer include patisserie, sweet and savoury pies, spices, cheeses, chocolate and locally made cider, gin and real ale. Several traders hold Great Taste Awards for their outstanding artisan produce.

The extensive craft section showcases a range of talented artists and creatives many of whom take commissions and produce bespoke items such as clothing, woodturning, art, home decor and pet accessories. There’s a jewellery repair service, a pop up houseplant shop and a second hand book store. The line up of traders varies slightly through the month.

Two barista coffee traders are on site for you to grab an espresso, cappuccino or cup of tea as well as hot take out street food traders who cook to order. Over the last year they’ve rustled up dishes such as BBQ sea bass on garlic flat breads, stone cooked pizza, paninis and pancakes.  During the summer months there’ll be artisan ice cream.

When Covid regulations allow, the Barton Bros bar, will provide a fine range of real ale and craft beer sourced from local breweries along with wine and soft drinks.

Previously the market was completely undercover in three large market halls, but since last year has been held both inside and outside the venue to allow for more space and a manageable queuing system in line with the current guidance on social distancing.

The market is free to enter and dog and child friendly.  It does offer a small amount of limited parking, but there are other public car parks in the area and bus and tram stops straight outside.

Most of the traders now take contactless payments, there is a one-say system around the market halls and visitor numbers are monitored throughout the day, so there may be a short wait outside at peak times.
