The multi-million-pound transformation of Beeston town centre has progressed after detailed plans were tabled to build more than 130 apartments.
Proposals for 132 one and two-bedroom apartments have been submitted for the land situated off Station Road, between Styring Street and Middle Street. The apartment bid forms part of the vast Beeston Square development where work has already begun on an eight-screen cinema. Five bars and restaurants are also hoped to be built on the site.
The land for the apartments, situated next to a plot earmarked for the cinema, is being sold by Broxtowe Borough Council. The site already has outline planning permission, meaning the apartments can be built in principal. But a detailed, reserved matters application has since been lodged providing information about means of access to the site. A decision on the second phase is expected by Tuesday, April 14.
A spokeswoman for Broxtowe Borough Council said: “We welcome the proposed development of 132 town-centre living apartments, the details of which will now be carefully considered.”
Vehicles for the apartments are expected to access the site via a car park entrance on Station Road. Up to 50 car parking spaces and 10 motorcycle spaces have been allocated to serve the development as well as two electric vehicle charge points.
Councillor Milan Radulovic, leader of the borough council, said: “There is a great deal of momentum behind the development, which will revitalise Beeston’s night-time economy and drive increased footfall to the town from the local and surrounding communities.”
The latest plans were drawn up by Leonard Design Architects.
