A former goods yard next to Beeston Railway Station could be transformed into a housing estate – and a decision on the project is expected to be made this year.
The site could make way for 42 new homes.
Developers have proposed to build a range of properties including two-bedroom houses and semi-detached three-bedroom family homes.
Tom Heathcote, executive director of development at ilke Homes, said staff were ‘delighted’ to have submitted the plans to the council.
He said: “The 42 homes will be delivered using modern methods of construction and work will start on site in early autumn.
“It’s been excellent working with Network Rail to bring this site forward for the delivery of much-needed family housing to Beeston.”
Up to 71 off-street parking spaces will be available, according to the plans.
The land where the homes are planned is situated between Station Road and Waterloo Road.
Its use as a goods yard stopped a number of years ago and it became a builders’ yard cement works.
A spokesman for Network Rail said the partnership with ilke Homes supports its “strategy to release land for housing to drive economic growth and help communities to thrive, whilst generating capital to fund rail improvements for the benefit of passengers, taxpayers and the economy”.
