Painting started on Lady Bay Bridge

23/07/2025 by Digital Media

The Lady Bay Bridge started being painted towards the end of June.

The bridge was constructed in 1878 as a rail crossing and then converted to a road in 1979 along with the footpath that was constructed on the west side. The bridge is made from iron and was last painted in 2010. It is now necessary to paint all the metalwork elements to protect the bridge from corrosion and to ensure strength and longevity.

The work started on Monday 16th June and is due to finish in October. To ensure that work can be carried out safely, the bridge will be closed for a short period during the works on the below dates and times:

  • Footway closed daytime – 8:30am – 5:30pm (weekdays only) from 7th July to 20th August
  • Road closed night time – 8.00pm – 6.00am (weekdays only) from 7th July to 17th August

Nottinghamshire County Council are managing the repainting of Lady Bay Bridge, which is jointly funded by Nottingham City Council’s Local Transport Plan Bridge Maintenance Funding.

Councillor Linda Woodings, Executive Member for Regional Development, Growth and Transport at Nottingham City Council, said: “This work is an important investment in Nottingham’s infrastructure. Together with the County Council we are committed to maintaining and keeping Lady Bay Bridge looking its best, and most importantly, this work will help to protect and preserve the bridge for many years to come.”
