An apartment block for people over the age of 55 has been earmarked for development in Burton Joyce and work could begin next year.
The plans were submitted to Gedling Borough Council by Gedling Homes. The planning documents state “This proposal provides a ‘fit for purpose’ development for the 21st century, catering for residents in excess of 55 years old providing an independent living environment with capacity for some ‘extra care’ accommodation incorporating an assisted bathroom and guest suite.
The site named Lendrum Court is situated just off Lambley Lane in Burton Joyce.
The scheme is designed to replace an already existing sheltered housing complex which is expected to be demolished.
Jigsaw Homes Group is the housing association which controls Gedling Homes. Operations director for development, Garnet Fazackerley said, “Following extensive consultation with planners, our proposed development will provide 34 one and two-bed apartments for affordable rent.
“These quality new apartments will offer a modern and safe independent living environment that better suits the needs of local residents over the age of 55.
“Subject to planning, we aim to start work on the new development in spring 2020 with completion expected in late summer 2021.
“The plans are in line with Jigsaw Group’s long-term commitment to investment across Nottinghamshire and the ongoing provision of much-needed affordable homes.”
“The scheme also requires modern additions to the site facilities such as a buggy store (for electric mobility scooters) and compliant electric vehicle charging spaces.”
