Twenty students from the club’s Football in the Community charity were carrying out their National Citizen Service (NCS) at Longmoor Lodge Care Home, in Sandiacre. As part of the programme, they organised a live concert at Long Eaton Rugby Club, held a bric-a-brac car boot sale and ran a quiz. They raised £1,100, which will go into the residents’ fund, to support activities and day trips throughout the year.
The NCS volunteers, all aged 15-to-17, also decorated part of the home’s garden by painting stones, painted a garden scene mural in one of the corridors and spent time chatting with residents. Two of the home’s residents, Graham Carlisle and John Parker, presented the students with certificates to say thank you for their hard work.
Julie Mulvany, home manager at Longmoor Lodge Care Home, said: “What an amazing amount raised by the NCS students from Notts County FC’s Football in the Community charity.
“We can’t thank them enough for all their hard work and support during their time with us. Their company has meant the world to the residents, who have thoroughly enjoyed chatting with them while they worked on the garden and the new mural.
“It is so important for both the young and elderly to spend time together, as intergenerational initiatives such as this can provide wide ranging benefits for both groups.”
