A team from Tiny Talkers Day Nursery in West Bridgford will take part in the Peak District Challenge on Saturday 9 July to help raise funds for the charity.
Starting at Bakewell, Richard Akers and Alison Jones from Tiny Talkers Day Nursery, are set to walk 50km (31 miles) in one day as they complete the Peak District Challenge. Their route will take them through one of the most stunning landscapes in the British Isles.
In order to get themselves ready for the challenge ahead, Richard and Alison have been spending their weekends practicing for the big event.
Richard Akers, Tiny Talkers Nursery Deputy Manager and NSPCC Champion, said:
“Alison and I have been trying to get a few practice hikes in before the big one, which has been keeping us nice and healthy. Although, it has been difficult squeezing in these walks in with other day-to-day commitments, including working full-time at the nursery and running community events such as our recent summer fayre.
“It is important for us to complete the Peak District challenge as not only do we want to take this opportunity to shout aloud about the great work the NSPCC does, but we also want to help fund great services such as Childline to help ensure they keep on going.
“As a nursery we believe protecting children is a vital part of our job, so helping services like the NSPCC is very important to us. This is why we decided to do the walk.”
Barbara Elsey, NSPCC Community Fundraising Manager for Nottinghamshire, said:
“Richard and Alison will face an almighty physical challenge that will test their fitness, strength and endurance. They are both incredible volunteers and very much represent the heart of our NSPCC community here in Nottinghamshire.
“The NSPCC relies on public donations for the majority its income and every £4 raised will help our Childline service offer a counselling session to a young person in their hour of need. So please, help Richard and Alison to smash their target of £790 and make a difference for children.”
