Nottinghamshire Hospice celebrates opening of Beeston shop

16/08/2025 by Digital Media

The community of Beeston came out in force on Thursday, as Nottinghamshire Hospice opened its ninth and newest shop in Beeston. Located on Villa Street opposite Sainsbury’s, the grand opening was a joyful celebration of community spirit and support for hospice care.

As a crowd gathered, the ribbon was officially cut by hospice Nurse Debbie Winspear, who welcomed locals into their newest shop.

“It was an honour to be part of the ribbon cutting,” said Debbie. “It costs over £12,000 a day  to run our end-of-life services, and this wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of the community we serve. Every pound of profit this shop makes will be spent directly on patient care.”

Founded in 1980, Nottinghamshire Hospice supports people at end-of-life through their Hospice In Your Home, Wellbeing and bereavement services. The Hospice receives a referral every five hours and offers 24 hour-care at-home care for free.

“Across Nottinghamshire, around half of people are able to die at home, despite many more wanting to” added Debbie. “96% of patients referred into our care die at home, surrounded by their loved ones, so finding more ways to grow our income to support more people is vital. We believe everyone deserves a good death.”

Community Shop Manager Sam Saunders, said the shop opening marked the beginning of a new chapter for Nottinghamshire Hospice in Beeston.

“We’re thrilled to see such a warm welcome from the Beeston community.” said Sam. “Everyone has been so lovely, and we already have people saying they want to volunteer with us and donate. To keep the shop running smoothly we’re always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team. If you have a few hours to spare, we’d love to hear from you!”

The Beeston shop is now open Monday to Sunday, from 9am to 5pm, offering a wide range of pre-loved fashion, homeware, books, and more.
