On Friday 26th August, the Nottingham Clean Champions – NG11 Clifton East and West along with Highways staff and contractor volunteers held a successful litter collection event.
They covered from Lark Hill (Clifton Lane), A453 Remembrance Way, Clifton Lane, Wilford to the Harvester Pub, Wilford and areas in-between. An amazing collaborative effort meant that 60 bags were collected!
With 20 Highways contractors and staff volunteers and The Clifton West Councillors Andrew Rule and Roger Steel, a team of 5 Lark Hill seniors and 9 Nottingham Clean Champions – NG11 Clifton East and West.
Many thanks to all that attended and the Harvester Pub, Wilford, who kindly provided much needed refreshments after.
Also thank you to Highways Route Manager Samantha Pinnock and Karen Alexander, Community Business Partner for recruiting the Highway volunteers.
National Highways Head of Customer and Operational Requirements, Freda Rashdi, said: “Littering is a social problem across the country and our priority, working closely with our partners, is to keep our roads safe and well maintained for drivers and neighbouring communities.”
Millions of pounds are spent each year on cleaning up the UK. Imagine what could be done with that money, if irresponsible drivers, their passengers and pedestrians stopped dropping litter.
Bin it or take it home!
Of course, more local volunteers are needed and most welcome to help keep the area litter free so if you have an hour to spare then contact:
