Inspired by the incredible Captain (now Colonel) Tom, 8-year-old Finn McLaughlin has run 100 laps of his crescent in Mapperley to raise money for the Trussel Trust.
Over 4 days, Finn ran 100 laps of his Crescent, each lap was 320m, equalling around 34km by the end. Finn’s original target of £100 was quickly surpassed, raising the target three times, he has now raised an incredible £1,000 for his chosen charity, the Trussel Trust. He chose this charity because he wanted to raise money for the food banks that help local kids in need, especially during lockdown.
Finn’s family are also doing their bit, his parents are both nurses at Nottingham’s Queens Medical Centre, and his 4-year-old sister Aoife has been a huge cheerleader for her big brother, even joining him on a few laps of his journey on her scooter.
A huge well done to Finn for completing his 100 lap challenge and raising an incredible £1,000 for charity.
The Trussel Trust
The Trussel Trust is a charity dedicated to raising money for food banks. More and more people are being forced to use food banks because they cannot afford the basics in life. Last year, food banks in the Trussell Trusts network provided 1.6 million three-day emergency food parcels to people in crisis, with over 500,000 of these going to children. This was an increase of almost 20% on the previous year. Now, as the Coronavirus pandemic develops, it’s likely that increasing numbers of people will need support from their local food bank. As food bank staff and volunteers work to source and distribute food to people who need support, their resources are becoming increasingly stretched as they come under additional pressure. They work closely with their network of over 1,200 food banks to work out how they can best support each food bank in the coming months to make sure that they’re able to continue to help people in crisis in local communities.
