Beeston Civic Society brings its monthly series of curated guest speaker events back to Beeston!
With a new cohort of experts in their field including writers, educators, industry executives, and Government advisors, this year’s programme is sure to be worth attending. It follows a theme of Sustainable Futures and hopes to bring enlightenment, inspiration, and interest to the people of Beeston and nearby.
The Society loves to support local grassroots ventures and independents, and so each talk is preceded by a ‘Spotlight’: a short introduction to a local project, group or independent business, given by someone involved.
The Society kicked off proceedings on Wednesday 16 October with a fascinating talk on Building for a Healthy Life (BHL). Given by the Urban Design Doctor, Dr Stefan Kruczkowski, this talk explained the new design code, called BHL (co-authored by Stefan) which has
been devised to help people improve the design of new and growing neighbourhoods. It is used by local authorities, developers, local communities and others to help set clear expectations of
new developments.
Further talks follow each month until March 2025. A range of subjects is planned, such as climate change, the survival of the High Street, and what local Councils are up to.
