Local resident, Beki Mannering is fundraising for the Charity Mind, and she needs your help!
I am local girl from East Leake and I have recently been awarded the title of Mrs Nottingham Atlantic. As part of the title I have been raising money for Mind, the mental health charity – the pageants chosen cause. I ran the Nottingham Christmas 5K on 1 December at Holme Pierrepont to help raise funds for charity.
In February 2019 I had a baby, and whilst on maternity leave, I was passionate about keeping active and helping others. Then, I found information online about the Atlantic pageant and thought that this would be a great way to empower myself to achieve all of those things. Being a new mother can be very hard and I was determined to take myself out of my usual routine!
According to the charity Mind, 10-15% of new mothers develop post-natal depression, so it’s incredibly important that awareness of this is raised and that new mothers are supported. This pageant will take me out of my comfort zone and show other new mothers out there that you can follow your dreams and set a good example to others by fundraising.
I will be swapping my running shoes for heels to take part in the grand final where a Mrs Atlantic will be crowned. The grand final of the Atlantic Beauty Pageant is to be held in Reading on 18 January and I hope to bring the crown back to Nottingham.
