A new friendship group called “Rock of Ages” is a charity based in West Bridgford. It launched in March 2024 as a community project managed by The Rock Church, and now after a summer break re-opens Monday 9th September 2024 at 10am.
We are a friendship group providing a ‘safe place’ where those 65+ (who can manage self-care independently) can enjoy making new friends and eat a delicious wholesome two course hot meal.
Our aims are to acknowledge and support members in this period of their life, and promote their ‘well being,’ by creating a warm friendly environment where everyone feels welcome. We use the term “members” rather than “service users” as we like people to feel a sense of belonging, and ownership of their group.
It’s run weekly (*excluding Bank Holidays) by the Lead Co-Ordinator, Pam Matts, supported by a fantastic group of volunteers. Members get the opportunity to connect over conversations, mental and physical games, activities, and entertainment, whilst enjoying one another’s company.
The club runs Mondays 10am-2pm* at Lutterell Hall, Church Drive, West Bridgford, NG26AY. There’s free parking onsite, or just a couple of minutes walk from Central Avenue major bus routes.
The first session is free, then £12 per person per session thereafter. This covers the meal, unlimited refreshments, and activities. (Occasional day trips may incur an extra charge).
Don’t just take our word for it, here’s what existing members say:
“Grateful for very helpful volunteers” Wendy R
“I enjoy the group because it gives me an opportunity for social interaction with wonderful people. If I did not have this group, I would be sat indoors most of the time. It gives me a chance to get out and socialise.” Kathy
“It’s a great chance to meet new friends, the team are all very friendly and great to be around. You also get a great two course lunch as well as unlimited tea, coffee, and biscuits. Join us and meet new people.” Phil
“We joined the club to meet new people and make new friends. This we have done with the help of the leaders. There’s plenty of laughter, also a listening ear when needed. An excellent group to belong to!” Glenys and Ray
If you, or someone you know are interested in trying us out, then we would love to hear from you to arrange a FREE ‘taster session’.
