Friends of Beeston Station are delighted to see the development of the forecourt outside the Ticket Office at Beeston Station.
“These developments are all part of a plan by East Midlands Railway to upgrade Beeston Station” said Melanie Boler, the Project Manager for East Midlands Railway.
As part of the project there will be new paving, more seating, larger planters and a new bike rack.
Trish Roberts-Thomson, Chair of FOBS, said: “We’re so pleased. It will make the forecourt area more attractive and give the Station a modern and contemporary look and feel.”
The current construction work by East Midlands Railway is in addition to Network Rail
proposals to upgrade the station buildings. They are planning on replacing the canopies over the main entrance, and rebuilding the shelters on both Platforms 1 and 2. This work is expected to begin in early 2026.
“Together, this work will transform the Station” Trish said. “Since the lifts, both East Midlands Railway and Network Rail have really focused on improving the Station and, as a result, passenger numbers appear to be increasing.”
In other developments, Friends of Beeston Station recently enjoyed a special Afternoon Tea from The Victoria Hotel in Beeston.
The Vic wished to thank FOBS for its work in keeping the Station platforms, the Tin Bridge and the area outside the Hotel clean and tidy.
Hannah Butler, the landlady of The Vic, said: “It’s wonderful what FOBS does. It makes such a difference to be in an area which is looked after, and I just wanted to show my appreciation to them.”
Trish said: “It does make such a difference when people appreciate us and particularly after such a long hot dry summer. We have spent months watering to keep the baskets and planters around the Station looking as best they can. It makes all our efforts worthwhile.”
