MP James Naish recently visited David Wilson Homes’ The Skylarks development to meet Site Manager, Liam Hathaway, who has received national recognition for the quality of homes being built in the village.

James Naish MP visits the David Wilson Homes ‘The Skylarks’ development in East Leaje, Nottinghamshire.

In June, Liam won a Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC); an award known as the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry.
James Naish MP said: “It was great to visit The Skylarks as it nears completion, having visited several times to speak to residents during its evolution.
“It was especially good to meet Liam so that I could congratulate him on his recent award.
“Too many of my constituents are living in sub-standard properties through no fault of their own, so it’s important that we celebrate high-quality homes and people who put so much care into their work. You can see the difference it makes on site, and in the way they talk about what they’re doing.
“It looks to me like Liam and the team can be proud of everything they’ve done at The Skylarks.”
The MP’s visit also included a tour of the show homes at the development with David Wilson Homes’ Managing Director, John Reddington, alongside the housebuilder’s sales team.
James was given an insight into the progress made at The Skylarks and shown what makes it a multi-award-winning community.
Overseeing all aspects of construction at the development is Liam, who has worked for David Wilson Homes for 30 years. This is his 12th Pride in the Job Quality Award and, now moving onto the next stage of the awards, will be hoping to earn his fourth Seal of Excellence later this year.
Liam said: “Each Pride in the Job Award is as special as when I won my first. Our team at The Skylarks has shown incredible consistency and there’s such a strong team spirit, so we are thrilled to have earned this recognition once again.
“Whilst everyone plays a part in winning the award, I’d particularly like to thank my Assistant Site Manager, Sam Yorke, my Trainee Assistant Site Manager, Akshay Jhalli, and my Contracts Managers, Daryl Marshall and Ben Derbyshire. Their hard work plays a vital role in our success.”
The Pride in the Job competition is known as one of the most rigorous in the industry, with over 8,000 site managers being judged on a variety of criteria, such as technical expertise, leadership, health and safety, and attention to detail. The awards aim to raise standards across the sector and celebrate the pivotal role that site managers play in delivering high-quality homes on time and in safe working environments.
In total, site managers working for David Wilson Homes’ parent company, Barratt Redrow Plc, have won 122 Pride in the Job awards this year alone – more than any other housebuilder.
This is the 22nd year in a row that Barratt Redrow has won the most Pride in the Job awards, underlining just how important building high-quality sustainable homes has been to the developer over the past two decades.
