Michael Jackson is a 66 year old from Beeston Rylands. In his lifetime, Michael has had a stroke and four heart procedures.
Since retiring he’s increased the amount of cycling he does, aiming to ride three times a week. In the summer of 2022 he cycled from Beeston to Dover and then from Calais to ride around Germany, and flew home from Berlin. He had cycled 1,600 miles!
In 2023, Michael left Beeston and again cycled down to Dover, where he took the ferry to Dunkirk and cycled from there across Belgium, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to Tallinn and visited Helsinki before cycling south to Warsaw for a flight home. That was a ride of 3,060 miles and his friends said to him that he should cycle to raise money for charity.
So, in the summer of 2024 he decided to ride for the British Heart Foundation. He again cycled from his home in Beeston to Dover and from Dunkirk travelled through Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey to Istanbul. He raised over £1,600 on the 2,569 mile ride.
But, wanting to go ‘one wheel further’ in the summer of 2025, Michael will embark on the longest ride of his life in memory of his sister Helen, who died at the age of 40 from Multiple Sclerosis.
He will not be cycling from Beeston Rylands this time, he instead will fly to the USA and cycle from the Atlantic coast of Maine to Seattle on the Pacific coast. He is hoping to raise even more money on this 4,250 mile ride.
