Memorial Cricket Match raises over £2,500 for the Harby Foundation

19/07/2021 by Digital Media

On the 18th July, over £2K was raised during a memorial cricket match at Thrumpton C.C in memory of a young cricketer.

Back in late 2020, many people were rocked by the sudden loss of 26-year-old Jordan Harbottle.

Jordan was an avid cricketer and passionate sports fan and in recent years had played for both Radcliffe on Trent and Thrumpton Cricket Club’s.  Jordan was always one of the first to reply to confirm his availability to play.  He had a smile which you can’t forget and if you ever needed something, if Jordan could help, he would.

In his memory, the Harby Foundation was formed to support less fortunate children gain access to sport, and on Sunday 18th July 2021 a Memorial Cricket Match took place at Thrumpton C.C.  Players, umpires and scores turned out from various clubs from around the county who had all enjoyed playing or participating with Jordan over the years. There was also a huge crowd of friends and family that had gathered in all the shaded areas around the ground.

In memory of Jordan Harbottle

The weather couldn’t have been better for what turned out to be a fantastic day. The Thrumpton XI ran out winners by 1 wicket, but the result didn’t matter.  Seeing the numbers of people that turned out was simply remarkable and a true testament to what a fantastic son, father and friend Jordan was.

Throughout the day a BBQ was fired up, stalls set up to provide cakes and sweets, a tombola as well as a bar that was fully stocked with drinks available for all!

After the game had finished, there was a raffle and auction with some brilliant prizes donated from local businesses, people and sports teams. The day ended with the crowds gathering, where a tree was planted in the corner of the ground in Jordan’s memory.

Thanks must go to Thrumpton CC for hosting the event and the numerous people and businesses that helped to make the day such a huge success where over £2,500 was raised for the Harby Foundation.

There are further plans to continue with an annual game between these two sides to remember Jordan and raise more funds of the Harby Foundation.
