On Wednesday 4 June, Lymphoma Action hosted its annual Volunteer Recognition Awards. The event is an opportunity to celebrate and thank volunteers for the time, skills and commitment they offer to the Charity.
This year, the event focused on the value of a strong volunteer community when supporting people affected by lymphoma, with volunteers invited to share their experience as a volunteer and how their roles contribute to supporting others impacted by this type of blood cancer.
Lou Horton from Nottingham received a long service award, having offered her time for five years as a facilitator for Lymphoma Action’s Live your Life programme. A peer-led self-management course, Live your Life offers support to people in finding their ‘new normal’ following the end of lymphoma treatment or while on active monitoring (‘watch and wait’).
“I am so grateful to receive my award, and it came as a lovely surprise” said Lou. “I remember attending a Live your Life workshop and it was a ‘game changer’. My facilitator was so inspiring, and I knew I had to get involved. Supporting the Charity means so much to me, and I continue to feel inspired working alongside our group of amazing Live your Life facilitators. Thanks to Lymphoma Action, I don’t feel alone in living with lymphoma.”
