Pierrepont Gamston Primary School, located in the heart of Gamston, embarked on a remarkable journey on Friday 1st March.
In a true display of unity and determination, all 320 pupils from the school set out to row an astonishing 298 kilometers – the length of the River Trent. This extraordinary feat was organised by the school as a fundraising event to support Nottingham Rugby Club, who are striving to raise £50,000 to recover from the recent devastating floods that severely damaged their grounds.
The day was nothing short of spectacular, with the entire school community joining forces with members of Nottingham Rugby Club to take on this immense challenge. From the early morning, excitement and anticipation filled the air as the children, staff, and rugby club members gathered together to embark on this epic rowing adventure.
As the day progressed, it became evident that the target distance of 298 kilometers would not be reached by the end of the school day. However, undeterred by the remaining 50 kilometers, Pierrepont Gamston Primary School made a heartfelt appeal to parents and families, calling for their support. This appeal was met with an overwhelming response, as parents enthusiastically joined their children, rowing side by side to push towards the finish line.
The spirit of community was truly alive as everyone came together to support this noble cause. The collective efforts of the children, parents, and members of Nottingham Rugby Club led to a magnificent achievement – all 298 kilometers were conquered! Huge thank you to Nottingham Rowing club for lending us the rowing machines for the event.
The funds raised throughout this remarkable endeavour surpassed all expectations, with over £1,000 contributed by the generous supporters. Michael “Pickle” Green expressed his gratitude, saying: “We would like to say a massive thank you to the amazing kids at Pierrepont Gamston and Head Teacher Claire Bills for their support and tremendous effort on Friday 1st March to raise money for the recent flooding at our home ground.”
These funds will go a long way in aiding Nottingham Rugby Club’s recovery efforts, bringing them closer to their goal of £50,000.
Pickle, the Community Coach Manager, expressed his admiration for the students’ dedication, stating: “The effort the kids put in throughout the day was inspirational to say the least. This just goes to show the strength of the Rugby Community when someone is faced with adversity. It was amazing to see everyone come together and support us.”
With the remarkable success of this fundraising event, Pierrepont Gamston Primary School is now eagerly looking forward to attending the remaining home games of Nottingham Rugby Club. The school community is thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of these matches and witness first-hand the impact of their support.
