Local gymnast selected for Great Britain in the European Championships

12/07/2022 by Digital Media

Grace Davies from Stoke Bardolph fell in love with gymnastic after watching her sister train and compete.

When she was 5, Grace started the sport herself, training at the Norfolk Academy of gymnastics before moving to Nottingham in 2017.

In 2019, she began training at Robin Hood Gymnastics Club where she trains for around 25 hours per week.

Grace is now 14 and competes on various apparatus (bars, beam, vault and floor).  She loves all the above equipment, but especially the floor where she was the youngest ever gymnast to compete a double straight.

With her talent and through hard work and dedication, Grace has been selected for the upcoming European Championships, which are being held in Munich in August. This won’t be the first time that Grace has represented Great Britain, as during March, the gymnast competed in her first international for Great Britain Under 15s. At the event in Stuttgart, Grace received the bronze medal on bars and more recently she performed in France, where the team gained the silver medal, competing in a three way international competition against France and Germany.
All of her recent (and hopefully upcoming!) achievements wouldn’t be possible without the help of others. Grace would like to thank her school, Nottingham Academy for their support and her personal coaches Jemma Wilson and Fred Voortman for their commitment and support in helping her achieve her goals.

Grace’s biggest supporters are of course her family, who are all extremely proud of her achievements. This latest success of being selected internationally for GB, comes with significant costs for family to travel.

Having not been able to afford to attend Grace’s previous two trips abroad in 2022, a fundraiser has been set up by family, for Grace’s Mum to be able to travel with her to Munich.  It would mean the world to Cara to watch her daughter compete at the European Championships. If you are able to help, or would like to donate towards this please visit: https://gofund.me/a0717e7f
