West Bridgford Social Singers’ new session got off to a flying start with a three day visit to York at the end of September, where they performed to a capacity audience at a concert in Poppleton Methodist Church, raising nearly £700 for church funds in the process.
Later in the weekend, they joined forces with Village Voices at Riccall for an informal afternoon of music making.
At the recent Annual General Meeting, Musical Director Simon Thompson said: “This has been an epic year for the choir with performances at various local venues (including our 30th Anniversary Concert). We have supported the local community through our fundraising efforts as well as through our singing, and the recruitment of new members has been a positive initiative.”
Outgoing chairman, Mike Schofield, praised the choir for a successful year of quality singing, music and friendship.
Two new charities, Jessie’s Fund (a national charity which supports children with complex needs through the therapeutic use of music, and has in the past supported the employment of a Music Therapist at Rainbows Hospice) and the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.
“We look forward to another successful year of music making!” said new Chairman, Jason Gilman-Hughes.
The choir’s first concert will be at WBMC on the afternoon of Sunday 26th November.
