Local Care Home Bowls Team Crowned Champions

05/12/2023 by Digital Media

Residents from Rivendell View care home have been crowned champions of an inter care home bowls competition.

Going head-to-head with Edwalton Manor Care Home, Coppice Lodge, Willowbrook and Hall Park, the Rivendell View residents’ bowls team scooped up first place, beating the competition by one point.

After the competition, players from across all five homes came together for a friendly game of dominoes, lunch, and a chat.

81-year-old Rivendell View bowler, Joyce Rowbotham said, ‘What a fantastic day we’ve had, and even better that we came home victorious.’

73-year-old Clive Pett added: ‘I’d never played bowls before moving to Rivendell View, and now I enjoy playing weekly with the team. I’m so happy we won; I had a great time at the competition.’

Ross King, a fitness coach who offers sessions in care homes, organised the event. Ross commented: ‘The idea behind this event was to bring together residents from different care homes to interact and socialise with each other.

‘The competition went better than I could have imagined, and we can’t wait for the next one!’

The Home Manager at Rivendell View, Lisa Tungate, added: ‘It’s so important to us that our residents feel part of the community, and they always enjoy meeting new people and forming friendships.

‘We’re very proud of our fantastic bowls team, but we’re even happier that they enjoyed the day so much!’
