In May this year the West Bridgford Branch of the RNLI celebrated their 50th anniversary.
Also, this year the branch secretary who has given sterling service is to retire. The RNLI rules states that three key positions must be filled for a branch to operate, one of these positions is that of branch secretary, so basically no secretary no branch. It would be a great shame if the branch were forced to close after 5 decades.
Although 80 miles from the coast on average, the branch raises approximately £13,696 a year to help save lives at sea. In 2019 lifeboats saved 26 people a day and lifeguards assisted 29334 persons that year.
Many of the individuals rescued or assisted live inland and were visiting the coast with no intension of engaging with the sea but through some misadventure find themselves in danger from the sea. They could be members of your family.
Could you help to support the crews by becoming the branch secretary and one of our team? You only need a computer, telephone, and a little spare time.
