A local charity that helps autistic people across Nottinghamshire is calling on the local community to take part in their latest fundraising activity.
The ONEin100 Challenge – a nod to the statistic that one in 100 hundred people in the UK today are diagnosed as being autistic – is a virtual and creative challenge that asks those taking part to create a challenge involving the number 100. Anyone can take part, anywhere, and the top one hundred fundraisers will all receive a bespoke medal from the charity, Autism East Midlands.
The ONEin100 Challenge runs during Autism Awareness week for ten days from Friday 26 March to Sunday 4 April.
Autism East Midlands is the largest autism service provider in the region helping autistic people and their families throughout their whole life, from pre-school age children through to the elderly receiving care and support.
Fundraising Manager Helen Lee Smith says:
“At least one in one hundred people in the UK today have a diagnosis of autism spectrum condition, a lifelong complex neurological condition that affects the way a person interacts, communicates and makes sense of the world. Our services across the region, provide flexible day support and accommodation based services, employment coaching, support for autistic university students, specialist education at Sutherland House School, diagnostic assessments, and services that connect families of autistic children together for peer support.”
“For the period of ten days, you might set a fitness challenge to run 100 miles or walk for 100 minutes. You might choose to bake and sell 100 cakes, knit 100 inches or practice a musical instrument for 100 hours. Whatever you do, we ask you to fundraise and make it fun! It can be a lovely way to connect colleagues, families and friends together, when they are spending so much time apart.”
Local solicitors Ellis, Fermor and Negris are the first company in the region to sign up to take part in the challenge.
The firm’s Marketing Officer Caitlin Dobson says:
‘We are excited to take part in the Onein100 Challenge with Autism East Midlands for Autism Awareness Week 2021! We’ve had the pleasure of partnering with the charity as our Charity of the Year since 2019 and we’ve been glad to support their work. Through the Onein100 Challenge we hope to help raise awareness of autism and the brilliant work Autism East Midlands do for the local community.’
